Speaking to families sometimes we get the felling that nothing bad ever happens and that sick pay, savings and family will always be there to help out. Which im sure to some extent they will be.

As a Dad myself would i want to have to go to family in the hour of crisis, illness or event of passing cap in hand to financially support my family – probably not!

If we put some numbers around this from a report which was commissioned by Liverpool Victoria. Their survey and analysis found before retirement a (none smoking) couple aged 40-50 years with older children are likely to suffer the following:

48% chance of being off work for 2 months or more

23% chance of being diagnosed with a critical illness

10% chance of death

57% chance of all of the above happening!

64% of people whom are diagnosed with cancer are under the age of 75

3.5 Million 20-34 year olds live with their parents in the UK. Meaning if parents are ill the impact is to the children as well as Mum & Dad

These metric demonstrate from a probability point of view that nasty things do happen. How we want to maintain the normal stability of home and home life is our choice
