In the UK a Stroke strikes every five minutes 100,000 people have strokes each year There are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK. That is 1 in 6 persons will have a stroke in their lifetime.

A Stroke when the supply of blood to the brain is reduced or blocked completely, which prevents brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Common in the over 60’s the effects can be several years to life long. Inhibiting speech, mobility and because of this our ability to work and be active.

How we protect against this is up to us. But the outcome will impact on our home, family and finances if this event arrives.

A critical illness protection will pay a lump sum if we are diagnosed with a critical illness on the plan but once it is spent the money is gone. Also all critical illness protections have a different severity for a claim to be paid – they are not all the same.

Many families are starting to us a mix of critical illness with income protection therefore the day to day bills are being paid if the cant work and a lump sum could be paid for the critical illness. This means x2 things: A it usually works out cheaper than just critical illness and the income protection is a catch all in “any event” we can not work
